Job Title: Student Intern
Department: Recreation, Park & Tourism Sciences
Reports to: Dr. Outley, Youth Summit Director and Associate Department Head
Job Summary:
Students will hone their scholarly skills, acquire additional expertise, and gain new perspectives
on the academic workplace. Duties include assisting faculty members and graduate students in a
wide range of event planning and research activities (e.g. library and literature searches, grants
searches, maintaining filing systems, data entry, manuscript editing, human subject application
preparation, conference preparation, etc.). Positions will be for ~20 hours a week and require 3-
month commitment, with possibility of extension. The position will begin at the start of summer
or earlier for training if possible. Project coordinators will manage several aspects of current
research studies including scheduling, coordinating, running, and managing of research
participants.

- 2018 Youth Summit
- The purpose of this project is to assist the DFPS Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) program with event planning for the annual Youth Summit. The Youth Summit focuses on Community Youth Development Program Youth Advisor Council members. PEI seeks to obtain information on type of data that could be collected from youth and communities to show outcomes and program effects.
- TAMU Youth Development Website
- Acquire, develop and maintain website content; and acquire, develop, and maintain social media sites.
- TAMU YD Professional Series Training
- Purpose is to develop a professional training series on Youth Development. Assistance will be in the area of editing, writing, seeking out information, etc. as needed.
- Evaluation of Prevention and Early Intervention
- The purpose of this project is to assist the DFPS Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) program with research on two programs 1) Services to At-Risk Youth 2) Community Youth Development program. PEI seeks to obtain information on type of data that could be collected from youth and communities to show outcomes and program effects.
- Proven experience as an event planner
- Proficient in MS Office and databases
- Excellent attention to detail and an analytical mind
- BS in Recreation, Park & Tourism Sciences or relevant field
- Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written)

Pay: $10/hr
Work days: Monday thru Thursday from 9am - 5pm (Hours are flexible and depends on when you can come and work. Talk to Dr. Corliss Outley, the Youth Summit Director, about what works for you; however, you are required to work the days of the event.) Other benefits and opportunities: Through this internship opportunity, I was able to network and gain new experience to help me become a better event planner. During the Youth Summit, I was always challenged to think outside of the box to make sure operations for the event is as efficient and smooth as possible. In every single task I had to complete, I always had the opportunity to apply my knowledge and use practical skills of event management to ensure the success of the Youth Summit. |
