About and Mission.
Youth Summit 2018 is a four day student conference that aims to prevent juvenile delinquency
and gear students with leadership skills to actively engage and improve their community. Students are introduced to pro-social and leadership skills through workshops, engaging activities, and key core competencies including communication, diversity, professionalism, project management, teamwork, and personal identity. The program is funded by the state within the Department of Family and Protective Services. They saw a need for creating awareness of youth protective factors within youth development, so they created this summit to grow young adult leaders within this community. The program used to be held at Texas State University; however, Texas A&M recently received a grant to host the summit for the next five years under the jurisdiction of the Department of Recreation, Park & Tourism Sciences.
